Moussa Ali Volcano
Remote active volcano in northern Djibouti with lava lakes and extreme geothermal features.
Moussa Ali is one of the few volcanoes on Earth with persistent lava lakes. Located in the remote Danakil region on the Eritrea border, it is accessible only to experienced adventurers with guides. The volcano is extremely active and dangerous; toxic gas emissions are common. Approach is via multi-day expedition from Djibouti City. The landscape is lunar and otherworldly: yellow sulfur deposits, colored rock formations, and extreme heat. Only for the most committed volcano enthusiasts.
