Djibouti City Harbor and Corniche
One of the world's busiest shipping channels with markets, colonial buildings, and waterfront atmosphere.
Djibouti City's harbor is one of the world's busiest, handling millions of containers annually. The Corniche waterfront offers shops, restaurants, and views of international shipping. The old medina retains colonial-era buildings and narrow souks selling spices, textiles, and crafts. Cafes serve strong coffee and qat (an herbaceous stimulant). The city feels cosmopolitan and strategic, quite different from typical African destinations. The atmosphere is urban and mercantile.
