Day Forest
One of Africa's rarest ecosystems, a mountain forest in an arid landscape with endemic plant species.
Day Forest is a high-altitude cloud forest in the Mabelé Mountains, incongruous in the surrounding desert. The forest receives moisture from ocean clouds; vegetation is lush despite the arid surroundings. Endemic plant species and ancient frankincense trees grow here. Hiking trails wind through the forest; guides are necessary and can be arranged locally. The ecosystem is fragile and protected. The contrast between desert and forest is striking and memorable.
