Lake Kariba
One of the world's largest artificial lakes, created by the Zambezi River dam, offering boat safaris and fishing.
Lake Kariba stretches 280 km along the Zambia-Zimbabwe border. The lake supports fishing communities and wildlife viewing by boat. Large populations of hippopotamus and crocodiles inhabit the lake and shoreline. Game viewing opportunities exist on the shoreline; boat safaris combine wildlife and landscape. The lake has significant ecological and economic importance. Accommodation ranges from basic villages to upscale safari lodges. The Kariba Dam itself (330 meters wide) is an engineering feat worth viewing.
