Visa & entry
Most nationalities receive a visitor's pass (30 days, renewable) on arrival. No visa is required in advance for citizens of EU, US, UK, Canada, Australia, etc. Passport must be valid for 6 months. A return ticket and proof of accommodation may be requested at check-in.
Money & payments
ATMs in Victoria dispense Rupees from banks (Seychelles Savings Bank, Seychelles National Bank). Exchange rates are fair. Credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, Amex) widely accepted at hotels, restaurants, and shops. USD is also accepted. No black market.
SIM cards & internet
Airtel and Cable and Wireless Seychelles are the providers. Buy SIM at airport or shops. 4G/LTE is island-wide and fast (10-20 Mbps typical). Data is affordable. Wi-Fi is standard in hotels, resorts, and cafes.
Getting around
Inter-island ferries (Seychelles Ferries) connect Mahe, Praslin, and La Digue. Flights between islands (Air Seychelles) are more expensive. Car hire or taxis are available on Mahe. Inter-island distances are short. Roads are well-maintained.
Health
Malaria is absent. Health infrastructure is good; Seychelles Hospital in Victoria provides excellent care. Tap water is safe to drink. Pharmacies are well-stocked. No required vaccinations; standard recommendations apply (hepatitis A and B, typhoid).
Language & etiquette
Seychellois Creole is the primary language; English is widely spoken and official. French is also understood. Dress is casual on beaches; smart-casual in restaurants. Tipping is not obligatory but 10% is customary. Be respectful of local customs and marine conservation efforts.
When to go
Best time is April to May and October to November (calm seas, mild temperatures). June to August is cooler with some wind. December to March is hot and humid with cyclone risk. Temperatures 24-32C year-round. Islands are accessible year-round; diving conditions vary.
Getting there
Seychelles International Airport (SEZ) on Mahe is the only international gateway, served by Air Seychelles (the national carrier), Emirates, Qatar Airways, Ethiopian Airlines, and regional flights. Inter-island flights and ferries connect the inner islands. Most travelers arrive direct from Europe or via Gulf hubs.
