Exercise increased cautionBamako is relatively secure for careful visitors. Street crime occurs; robbery of foreigners is a concern. Avoid night travel, protests, and large gatherings.
Avoid: Avoid traveling alone at night, avoid political demonstrations, avoid the area north of Bamako (Koulikoro region) without local guides.

Do not travelThe entire northern region is under travel advisory warning due to armed group activity, kidnapping risk, and active conflict. The UK, US, and other governments advise against all travel to these regions.
Avoid: Do not travel to Timbuktu, Gao, Kidal, Araouane, or any northern towns.

Central Mali (Mopti, Segou)

One of Bamako's two main public university referral hospitals, from the UK FCDO medical facilities list for Mali. Hopital Gabriel Toure appears on the same list but with a number identical to an unrelated clinic entry, which reads as an error, so it is not reproduced. FCDO gives a national ambulance number of 15 and notes response capacity is very limited.
