Dogon Country (Bandiagara Cliffs)

Unique cliff-dwelling villages of the Dogon people, dramatic landscape, and rich cultural traditions. Currently high-risk for travelers.

Dogon Country spans the Bandiagara cliffs and escarpment, where Dogon villages cling to the rocks in distinctive architecture. Villages like Telly, Ennde, and Yendouma are accessible by foot and offer perspectives on one of Africa's most distinct cultures. The landscape is dramatic and the hospitality is genuine. However, the region has experienced banditry and inter-communal violence. Travel is currently not recommended by most advisories; if visiting, hire only vetted local guides through established tour operators.
