Anjouan Island
Quiet outer island with waterfalls, clove plantations, and a relaxed pace away from tourists.
Anjouan is smaller and less developed than Grande Comore, with deep valleys, waterfalls, and intact clove forests. The main town, Mutsamudu, is picturesque with a harbor and colonial-era buildings. Hiking inland reveals waterfalls and highland villages. Local hospitality is warm and genuine. Ferries to Anjouan are irregular; arrival feels like stepping further from the modern world.
