Ouidah Slave Route & Forts
A somber pilgrimage through the departure point where millions of enslaved Africans were shipped across the Atlantic.
Ouidah is a coastal town where the Slave Route Museum, Fort of Ouidah, and the Temple of the Pythons stand as interconnected witnesses to the transatlantic slave trade. The route runs 4km from the tata (traditional palace) to the beach monument. Walking it is emotional and educational; guides explain oral histories, trading patterns, and the resistance efforts of kings like Agaja. The Temple houses sacred pythons considered spiritual guardians. This is not entertainment but historical reckoning.
