Rwenzori Mountains National Park

Africa's second-highest mountain range (Margherita Peak, 5,109m) with snow-capped peaks, alpine lakes, and montane ecosystems.

The Rwenzori Mountains straddle the Uganda-Democratic Republic of Congo border. Multi-day trekking routes (typically 6-8 days) ascend through tropical forest, afro-alpine meadows, and glaciated summit zones. Margherita Peak offers panoramic views across Central Africa. The range is less crowded than Kilimanjaro but more challenging due to terrain and weather. Acclimatization to altitude is important; guides are mandatory. The mountain is dubbed 'Mountains of the Moon' by locals; it inspires awe and serious mountaineering.
