Kibale National Park
Tropical forest reserve protecting over 1,500 wild chimpanzees; chimpanzee trekking and primate observation are primary activities.
Kibale National Park encompasses 766 square kilometers of pristine forest in western Uganda. The park protects one of Africa's highest concentrations of primates, including over 1,500 chimpanzees, red colobus, and l'hoest's monkeys. Chimpanzee trekking (shorter and less demanding than gorilla trekking) offers opportunities to observe tool use and complex social behaviors. The forest canopy is dense; early morning treks increase sighting chances. The park's bird life is also exceptional.
