Cameroon Travel Regions
Six distinct regions, each with its own landscape, wildlife, and culture.
Coast & Beaches
Kribi · Limbe · Ebodje
Kribi's golden beaches rank among Africa's finest - largely unknown simply because so few people know they exist. Limbe adds chocolate-black volcanic sand backed by Mount Cameroon's rainforest slopes. Between them, the Lobe waterfalls plunge directly into the Atlantic - one of the only places on Earth this happens.
Rainforest & Wildlife
Dja · Campo Ma'an · Lobeke
The Dja Faunal Reserve - 90% untouched primary forest ringed by the Dja River - shelters 107 mammal species including gorillas, chimps, and forest elephants. Campo Ma'an National Park holds over 700 gorillas, 700 chimpanzees, and the world's only protected mandrill habitat. The Baka Pygmy communities here carry thousands of years of forest knowledge.
Western Highlands
Foumban · Bafut · Ring Road · Bafoussam
The Foumban Palace has been the seat of the Bamoun Kingdom since 1394 - Sultan Njoya even invented his own 85-character alphabet here. The Ring Road loops 367km past volcanic crater lakes, grassland fondoms, and rotating weekly markets. Bafut's 400-year-old palace compound became famous when Gerald Durrell stayed repeatedly while collecting animals.
Savanna & Wildlife Parks
Ngaoundere · Benoue · Adamaoua Plateau
The Adamaoua plateau sits at 1,100m above sea level where Sahel savanna gives way to Fulani cattle country. Ngaoundéré is a Fulani emirate city whose Friday court ceremony is one of the most authentic ceremonial gatherings in Central Africa. The Bénoué River hosts massive hippo pods and walking safari opportunities rarely seen elsewhere.
Far North
Waza · Maroua · Mandara Mountains
Waza National Park - 180 miles north of Maroua - packs elephants, lions, giraffes, cheetahs, and 370 bird species into the most wildlife-dense park in Cameroon. The Mandara Mountains rise dramatically from the Sahel plain: Kirdi communities have terraced these volcanic outcrops for centuries, connecting isolated hilltop villages by ancient footpaths. Maroua's streets run red with Sahel sand.
Mount Cameroon
Buea · 4,095m · Active Volcano
Mount Cameroon rises from Atlantic sea level to 4,095m in under 50km - West Africa's highest peak and one of its most active volcanoes (last erupted 2000). Every franc spent on the mountain feeds the 12 villages clinging to its foothills. From the summit crater rim, on a clear morning, you can see the Equatorial Guinean island of Bioko rising from the sea.
Why Travel to Cameroon
What makes Cameroon different from every other Africa destination.
Every African landscape in one country
Equatorial rainforest, savanna, semi-arid Sahel, volcanic highlands, Atlantic coastline, and crater lakes all exist within Cameroon's borders. No other country in Africa contains this range.
Gorillas, elephants, and lions in the same trip
Western lowland gorillas in the south, elephants and lions in Waza, Cross River gorillas in the Northwest. Cameroon is one of the only places in Africa where you can encounter all three on one itinerary.
Almost no crowds
Cameroon receives a fraction of the visitors that Kenya, Tanzania, or Rwanda attract. Gorilla tracking here costs less than Rwanda and the forest experiences are wilder and less managed.
Ancient kingdoms still functioning
The Bamoun Kingdom in Foumban, the Bafut Fon's compound, and the Fulani Lamidat in Ngaoundere are all living institutions with chiefs, courts, and centuries of unbroken tradition.

Cameroon Travel FAQ
Do I need a visa to travel to Cameroon?
Most nationalities require a visa, obtained before arrival from a Cameroon embassy. ECOWAS member states are exempt. We provide a visa support letter with every confirmed booking. Processing typically takes 5 to 15 working days.
What is the best time of year to visit Cameroon?
November to February is the dry season across most of the country and the best period for wildlife viewing at Waza, overland travel, and highland touring. Gorilla tracking is possible year-round. The coast is good year-round. Mount Cameroon is climbable in all seasons.
Is Cameroon safe for tourists?
Douala, Yaoundé, Kribi, Limbe, the Western Highlands, Mount Cameroon, and the Far North safari areas are safe for visitors. We avoid the Anglophone conflict zones in the Northwest and Southwest. We monitor conditions daily and will restructure any itinerary at no penalty if conditions change.
How much does a Cameroon tour cost?
Day experiences start from $39 per person. A 7-day custom Cameroon tour covering two or three regions typically ranges from $1,200 to $2,800 per person depending on group size, accommodation tier, and activities selected. Gorilla tracking adds $450 per person for the permit and guide.
Can I combine gorilla tracking with a beach holiday?
Yes -- this is one of our most popular itineraries. Gorilla tracking in Campo Ma'an or the Dja Faunal Reserve in the south, combined with Kribi beach and Lobe Falls on the Atlantic coast, requires only a 3-hour road transfer between them.
