The UK Foreign Office and Australian Smartraveller both give 117 for police, so this one is not in dispute. 113 reaches the Gendarmerie Nationale, a separate force that covers rural areas, which makes it the more useful number once you are outside the main cities.

The UK Foreign Office gives 119 for fire. Australian Smartraveller gives 118 for fire and assigns 119 to ambulance, exactly the reverse. Two government sources disagree on which number is which, so both are listed here and on the ambulance entry, and a caller reaches help either way.

The UK Foreign Office gives 112 for ambulance, while Smartraveller describes 112 as a general number connecting to police, fire or ambulance and advises contacting the service you need directly. Smartraveller also warns that ambulance response is unreliable and may not exist outside the main cities, and recommends calling the nearest private clinic and arranging your own transport rather than waiting for a dispatch.
