Lake Kivu

Large rift lake on western border with beaches, water sports, and relaxed beach town vibe.

Lake Kivu is the second-largest lake in East Africa. The western shore in Rwanda includes Gisenyi, a beach town with hotels, restaurants, and water sports (kayaking, swimming). The lake is swimmable year-round. Island trips and fishing excursions are available. It is a relaxing counterpoint to gorilla trekking.
