Agadez Grand Mosque

UNESCO World Heritage mosque with distinctive adobe architecture in the Saharan city. Currently off-limits due to security.

The Grand Mosque of Agadez is a masterpiece of Saharan adobe architecture, with a towering minaret visible for miles. The mosque dates to the 16th century and represents Islamic scholarship and building craft. The surrounding old town of Agadez is a trading hub with traditional quarters. However, Agadez is in the jihadist-controlled zone and is off-limits per all Western advisories. The mosque should be visited only when security improves.
