Bazaruto Archipelago

Marine sanctuary of six islands with pristine reefs, diving, whale sharks (seasonal), and rare sea cows.

A UNESCO World Heritage Site and marine protected area, Bazaruto comprises six islands separated from the mainland by a deep water channel. The reefs are pristine; diving and snorkeling are world-class. Whale sharks migrate through June-November. The archipelago is also home to the endangered dugong (sea cow). Access is by boat from Vilanculos or small resorts on the islands. A 3-5 day stay allows full exploration.
