Essaouira Coastal Town

Laid-back Atlantic port town with beaches, strong winds ideal for windsurfing, and fresh seafood.

Essaouira (southwest of Marrakech) is more relaxed than imperial cities, with a medina perched on cliffs overlooking a working harbor. Beaches are long and sandy; strong Atlantic winds make it a kitesurfing hub. Seafood restaurants line the harbor, grilling fresh catch. The town was a filming location for Game of Thrones and other productions. Less touristy than Marrakech; good base for beach relaxation.
