The Erg Chebbi dunes near Merzouga in far southeastern Morocco are the iconic Sahara experience. Golden dunes roll for kilometers; sunset and sunrise are magical. Multi-day desert treks on camelback include nights in Berber camps under stars. Days involve trekking between dunes and visiting Berber villages. Physically demanding but intensely rewarding. January-March are coolest; June-August are very hot.
