Chefchaouen Blue City

Picturesque mountain town with blue-painted buildings, peaceful medina, and gateway to Rif hiking.

Chefchaouen in the Rif Mountains is famous for its blue-washed buildings, creating a dreamlike atmosphere. The medina is compact and walkable, less chaotic than Fez or Marrakech. Riads and guesthouses offer stays among the blue walls. Surrounding Rif hills offer hiking. The town attracts artists and backpackers. Best visited in spring or autumn; less crowded than other major cities. A refreshing change from busier tourist centers.
