Maseru

Capital city, markets, museums, restaurants, river promenade, South Africa proximity, urban logistics hub.

Maseru (130,000 people) is Lesotho's capital and primary urban center. The city has markets (Maseru Mall, street vendors), museums (Lesotho National Museum covering history and culture), and reasonable restaurants. The Caledon River forms the border with South Africa; river walks offer views. Nightlife is modest but welcoming. Accommodation ranges from budget hostels (30-60 LSL/night) to mid-range hotels (150-300 LSL/night). Maseru is the logical entry/exit point for flights, visas, and logistics. Budget 1-2 days for city exploration before heading to mountains. The city is polluted and crowded compared to village life but necessary for border crossing and supply.
