Sotho (Basotho)
Throughout Lesotho; historically central and southern highlands
Mountain herding culture (horses and cattle central to identity), distinctive conical straw hats (mokorotlo), wool blankets (traditional dress), communal decision-making via khotla gatherings, warrior heritage (resistance to Zulu and European expansion), initiation ceremonies (lebollo for boys, bojale for girls).
Visitor etiquette: Respect elders and traditional authority (chief). Horses are deeply woven into Sotho identity; show respect for horsemanship. Traditional dress (blankets, hats) are not costumes but cultural identity; treat with dignity. Participate in communal gatherings if invited. Greetings are important: 'Lumela' (hello). Photography of people requires permission. Don't mock traditional practices or expressions of national pride.
