Valley of the Kings
Royal burial site with 60+ tombs carved into cliffs; hieroglyphic paintings and mummified remains intact.
Across the Nile west of Luxor, the Valley contains tombs of pharaohs from the 18th-20th Dynasties, carved deep into sandstone cliffs. Tutankhamun's tomb (KV62) is the most famous discovery. Most tombs are open to visitors; descending into painted chambers with ancient texts is profoundly moving. Entry is limited (some tombs require extra fees); 3-4 tombs can be visited per ticket. Buses depart early morning; guide essential for context. Extremely hot; bring water and sun protection.
