The Great Pyramids, Sphinx, and 4,500-year-old necropolis on the outskirts of Cairo.
Three massive pyramids (Khufu, Khafre, Menkaure) built as royal tombs dominate the Giza plateau. The Great Sphinx guards the complex. Built with precision and scale that still astounds, they are the sole surviving wonder of the ancient world. The site museum displays the Khufu Ship. Sunrise visits are atmospheric but crowded. Tourist infrastructure is well-developed but guided tours help navigate the vastness and heat. Most visit from Cairo (25 km away).
