A felucca is a traditional wooden lateen-sailed boat used for centuries on the Nile. Multi-day and half-day cruises depart from Aswan, gliding south or north with overnight camps on islands. The pace is slow, contemplative, tied to wind and current. Visits to Nubian villages, temples, and archaeological sites break the journey. Sunset and sunrise on the water are ethereal. Accommodation is basic but authentic. Bargain for prices; many boat captains solicit tourists at riverside cafes.
