Egyptian Museum (Tahrir Square)

World's premier collection of pharaonic artifacts, from mummies to Tutankhamun's treasure.

Located in central Cairo, the museum houses the most extensive collection of ancient Egyptian artifacts globally, including Tutankhamun's tomb contents, royal mummies, and sculptures spanning 3,000 years. The collection is enormous and overwhelming; guidebooks or a guide are essential to navigate highlights. A new Grand Egyptian Museum near Giza is being developed as a modern replacement. Photography rules vary; check current policies.
