Cascades Region & Waterfalls (inaccessible)
Southern Burkina Faso's scenic region with waterfalls, lakes, and the Loropeni ruins (UNESCO site). Currently in a conflict zone.
The Cascades region offers relief from the Sahel flatness: waterfalls, sacred lakes, and the Loropeni Ruins (an ancient settlement with defensive walls). The landscape is greener and more varied. Banfora town is a market hub. The region is culturally and ecologically significant but is currently under effective control of armed groups and is not accessible.
