
Korup National Park covers 126,000 hectares of evergreen forest with fossil evidence of continuous cover for 60 million years - making it one of Africa's oldest forests. The park holds 400 tree species per hectare, 160 mammal species, and rare birds including the red-headed rockfowl. Guided treks follow gallery forest along the Mana River from the Mundemba research station base. Road access can be difficult in wet season - arrive prepared for a 7-mile hike from the Mana footbridge to the chimpanzee camp.
