The Kapsiki blacksmiths of the Mandara Mountains hold an annual iron-smelting ceremony in early October. Using a clay furnace and traditional bellows, they smelt locally gathered ore into iron billets. The blacksmith caste occupies a special ritual role in Kapsiki society.
