Tataouine in far southern Tunisia is a gateway to the Sahara. The surrounding landscape has dramatic clay kasbahs (fortified villages) perched on hillsides. The area was used as filming location for Star Wars (Lars Homestead). Desert oases, nomadic camps, and vast dune landscapes characterize the region. A 4WD and guide are essential for exploring. The experience is genuinely remote and rewarding.
