Gafsa and Sulphur Baths

Ancient mining town with natural hot sulphur springs and gateway to southern Sahara.

Gafsa, in southwestern Tunisia, was an important Roman town. Natural sulphur springs heat water; traditional hammams (baths) and modern spas utilize the water. The town is less touristed than coastal resorts but pleasant. Gafsa is a good base for exploring the southern Sahara region. The Ksar El Barka fortress is nearby.
