Djerba Island
Mediterranean island with beaches, berber and Jewish heritage, and laid-back resort atmosphere.
Djerba, off southeastern Tunisia, is accessible by causeway and ferry. The island combines beach resorts with Berber villages. El Ghriba synagogue on the island is historically significant. Villages retain traditional architecture with whitewashed buildings. The island is less frantic than mainland resorts. Water is clear and warm; diving is possible. A relaxed counterpoint to medina touring.
