Carthage Ancient Ruins
Legendary city of Dido, rival to Rome, with temples, baths, and museums spread across hillside.
Carthage, near Tunis, was a Phoenician city and Rome's greatest rival before destruction in 146 BCE. The site is scattered: the Tophet (child burial ground), Antonine baths, temples, and harbors are spread across a hillside. Multiple small museums exist; the National Carthage Museum is central. Ruins are less dramatic than Greek or Roman sites but historically significant. The setting, with Mediterranean views, is pleasant.
