Mount Kilimanjaro
Africa's highest peak (5,895m) and one of the world's most accessible high mountains, with multiple climbing routes and spectacular views.
Mount Kilimanjaro is a dormant volcano straddling the Tanzania-Kenya border. The mountain offers several trekking routes (Marangu, Machame, Lemosho) ranging from 5-7 days, accessible to fit non-climbers with no technical skills required. Climbers ascend through multiple ecological zones: forest, moorland, alpine desert, and arctic snow. Sunrise from the summit reveals the African continent beneath your feet. Success depends on acclimatization; 'pole pole' (slowly slowly) is the Swahili motto. Kilimanjaro's glaciers are retreating; climbing remains possible year-round but dry seasons (June-September, January-February) are optimal.
