Kruger National Park

World-class safari reserve, 2 million hectares, home to lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, rhino; big five guarantee.

Kruger stretches 360 km north-south and 65 km east-west along the Mozambique border. It is Africa's largest game reserve and the safest place on the continent to see big five (lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, rhino) reliably. Three ways to experience it: fly-in private lodges (2,000-5,000 USD/night; all-inclusive safari), mid-range camps run by SANParks, or self-drive from rest camps. Game drives are early morning (5-7am) and late afternoon (4-6pm) when animals are active. Birdwatching is exceptional (500+ species). Walking safaris with trackers add immersion. Rainfall and wildlife density peak October-March; dry season (May-August) concentrates animals around waterholes. Budget minimum 3-4 days; 7-10 days is transformative.
