Garden Route

Scenic coastal drive 220 km east of Cape Town through forests, coastal cliffs, beach towns; hiking, wine, adventure sports.

The N2 highway traces the Garden Route, passing through lush temperate forests, dramatic coastal cliffs, and small resort towns. Mossel Bay (seaside town, Cape Saint Blaize hiking) leads to George (golf capital), Wilderness (lake system, canoeing), Knysna (forested lagoon, oyster tastings), and Storms River (bungee jumping, suspension bridge, hikes). Days can span wine tasting at Wilderness wineries, ocean kayaking in Knysna Heads, or Storms River hiking. Accommodation is abundant and affordable (200-600 ZAR/night budget, 1,000+ luxury). Road conditions are excellent; driving is straightforward. Most visitors traverse the route in 3-5 days; it is scenic and low-stress compared to safari, ideal for beach and nature blend.
