Pico Cao Grande
Dramatic volcanic spire rising 663 meters from the sea, an iconic landmark and challenging day hike.
Pico Cao Grande (Big Dog Peak) is Sao Tome's most recognizable feature, a steep volcanic pinnacle visible across the island. Hiking to the peak is strenuous and steep but rewarding; views across the island and to Principe are stunning. Most visitors hike to an overlook rather than the true summit. Guides are essential. Full hike takes 4-5 hours.
