Chamarel Seven-Coloured Earth
Unique sand dunes striped with bands of seven distinct colors, a geological wonder unique to Mauritius.
In the southwest near Chamarel village, volcanic sand has oxidized into seven distinct color bands (red, brown, purple, green, blue, yellow, orange). The sight is surreal and surpisingly large (over 7 hectares). A viewpoint overlooks the formations. Nearby is Chamarel Waterfall (100m drop). Both can be visited in an afternoon.
