Black River Gorges National Park
Lush gorges and forested plateaus protecting endangered endemic species and indigenous forest.
This 6,500-hectare park in the southwest protects much of Mauritius's native forest and rare birds including the Mauritius kestrel. Walking trails range from easy (2 hours) to strenuous (full day). The landscape is green and dramatic, with waterfalls after rain. A visitor center has information. The park is cooler than coastal areas.
