Liwonde National Park
Large park protecting wildlife and the Shire River, offering game drives and hippo boat tours.
This 548 sq km park protects the lower Shire River, home to hippos, crocodiles, elephants, and numerous bird species. Game drives and boat tours are the primary activities. The park was heavily poached but is recovering. Basic and mid-range lodges exist; book ahead. A 2-3 day visit allows river and land exploration.
