Mount Kenya is a dormant volcano with a distinctive twin-peaked summit. The mountain offers trekking routes of varying difficulty from 3-day hikes to mountaineering expeditions. The mountain is snow-covered year-round above 4,500m. Indigenous Kikuyu hold Mount Kenya sacred. The surrounding Mount Kenya National Park protects forest and alpine ecosystems with unique plants and animals. Trekking requires acclimatization and physical fitness; guides are essential. The views from higher elevations are extraordinary.
