Bijagos Islands Archipelago
Remote, pristine island chain with unique wildlife, fishing villages, and ancient cultural traditions.
The 88 islands of the Bijagos archipelago are a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of West Africa's last pristine ecosystems. Islands like Orango, Bubaque, and Caravela are home to fishing communities, abundant birdlife, and endemic species. The islands are accessible by boat (arrange through tour operators in Bissau or hotels). Overnight stays are basic but comfortable. The cultural practices, particularly sacred bull ceremonies, are unlike anything else in West Africa.
