Bakau Sacred Crocodile Pool

Sacred pool where large crocodiles are kept in a compound, fed by local keepers and treated as spiritual guardians.

The Kachikally Crocodile Pool in Bakau is a living spiritual site and tourist attraction. Local people believe the crocodiles are spirits; women seeking fertility visit to touch them. The keepers are descendants of the pool's original guardians. The crocodiles are surprisingly docile but can be intimidating. The site is a confluence of superstition, tradition, and tourism; it requires respectful engagement.
