Virunga National Park

Africa's most biodiverse protected area, home to mountain gorillas and vast ecosystems, but currently inaccessible due to conflict.

Virunga National Park is legendary: mountain gorillas, forest elephants, lions, and 10,000+ species. However, active conflict in North Kivu makes it inaccessible and dangerous. The park authority does not permit tourist visits currently. This is not a visitable destination as of 2026. Include for reference only; alternative gorilla trekking is possible in Rwanda or Uganda.
