Grand-Bassam Historic Coastal Town
Charming coastal town with colonial architecture, sandy beaches, and a functioning fishing village atmosphere.
Grand-Bassam is a one-time colonial capital (1893-1900) with preserved European buildings, wide tree-lined streets, and a historic cemetery. It is simultaneously a bustling fishing port; fishers land their catch daily on the beach. The contrast between colonial nostalgia and working-class vitality is striking. The beach is clean; restaurants serve fresh seafood. The town is accessible by day-trip from Abidjan (50km) and worth a leisurely wander.
