Zakouma National Park

Chad's flagship wildlife reserve with elephant herds, giraffes, and diverse savanna fauna.

Zakouma National Park protects 3,000 km2 of Sahel savanna and woodland. Wildlife includes elephant, giraffe, buffalo, and numerous antelope species. The reserve suffered during Chad's civil war but has recovered significantly. Access is by 4x4 from N'Djamena (full day's drive). Facilities are basic; hire a guide. Best visited December-February. Birdwatching is excellent.
