Rusizi National Park

Protected wetland reserve near the capital with hippos, crocodiles, and diverse birdlife.

Rusizi National Park protects the delta where the Rusizi River enters Lake Tanganyika. The park is compact but home to hippos, Nile crocodiles, and over 400 bird species. A guided boat tour through the park is the best way to observe wildlife. Birdwatchers find it highly rewarding. The park is accessible as a day trip from Bujumbura; arrange tours through lodges or local guides.
